Drop Leaf Table in Red with Matching Chairs |
What a surprise this table was! We wondered if the red paint was
original. Then we discovered that the table not only had drop leaves but
also had two leaves which could be added to extend the table to seat
six or more. The table top has two halves which are held in place with a
lock on either side. When the locks are undone, the table slides open
to accommodate one or two leaves. The hidden leaves, which are stored
beneath the table, are hinged in the middle and pegged on one side to
fit into the main table top. They reveal that the original finish was a
natural wood with green accent. The wood may be maple. The distressed
red paint is charming but this table would also be a center piece if it
were refinished. It must have been covered with an old oil cloth for
many years. The cloth bonded to the red paint and the stored leaves in
some places. We will gently remove the remnants of the oil cloth and
then give the table a light cleaning with soap and water. The new owner
may make the decision about its finish. This item is now for sale in WRCAM, booth PPR.
